Storton’s Pits Nature Reserve Map

Storton’s Pits Nature Reserve is a water-based conservation site in Northampton, centred on a series of flooded quarry pits that have been naturally colonised by wildlife. The reserve sits within easy reach of the city centre and offers visitors a chance to observe aquatic habitats and the species they support. The pits themselves are remnants of former mineral extraction, now managed to benefit local biodiversity and provide a quiet space for walking and wildlife watching.

The site is accessible to the public and forms part of Northampton’s network of green spaces, attracting birdwatchers, photographers and nature enthusiasts. The open water environment draws migratory and resident waterfowl throughout the year. The reserve demonstrates how post-industrial land can be reclaimed for conservation and community benefit, making it a small but valued corner of Northampton’s natural landscape.
